  •  Audrianna turned five today. I wish I had a time lapsed video of every day of her life, so I could remember everything. She has grown so much and is turning into such an amazing little person. I have changed and grown into a mom. Nothing I have ever done can compare to being her mom. I love each moment with her, even the crazy ones. I guess, especially the crazy ones. Here ya go.

Audrianna: "Momma, What day is it today?"

Me: "Well, think about it and you tell me."

Audrianna: "I tell my brain what to think about, but I don't think it's listening to me."

Me (laughing): "Just think, What was yesterday?"

Audrianna (index finger to corner of mouth, eyes squinting): "Hmmmm..OH! I know! Today is the day before tomorrow and the day after yesterday!"

And she just walked away cause she answered her own question!

  • Settling In

I finally unpacked the last box and set up the treadmilll yesterday. So I guess we are all moved in. We had to have an exterminator come to get rid of the ants that were taking over the front part of the house. People told us that ants are just part of life in Hawaii, but I cannot accept that, so I will fight the good fight!

Last night, right after supper, the Kirby salesman came and tried to sell us a $3000 vacuum. Clint let him in the house. I don't know why! I thought he knew about this kind of thing. But appearantly not. The guy did not leave until 9pm! Collectively, we must have said at least 100 times, "We are not going to buy a vacuum!" He proceeded to show us how our vacuum doesn't work to pick up the dirt or something, by sprinkling sand all over the place and then trying to vacuum it up with our vacuum and then the Kirby. Well, it is a good thing that I don't sprinkle jars of salt and sand all over the living room then! It was ridiculous. Did I mention that I don't even have carpeting other than a small area rug in front of the couch?!? Anyway, just so you know, incase there is anyone else like Clint who doesn't know, don't let these people in your house. They won't take no for an answer.

I am slowly but steadily getting over my fear of sharks. I think the more I am out in the water, the easier it is to forget about the other creatures out there with me. We went out surfing twice this weekend. I still haven't gotten up on my board, but I am getting better at paddling without falling off the sides of the board.

Kaia is scooting around now. She is so close to crawling! I will put up some video if I can figure it out. Give me a couple days though. I am about to start some classes, so I may not be able to post as often. I'll try to get the video up before I start, though.

  • Sharks!

Surfing is much harder than it looks. I promise you, it is not at all easy. Well, I am not the most coordinated person around, but still.. I could not get more than a little way out into the waves and forget about catching a wave. I just tried to balance and keep the board underneath me while paddling out. There was one point at which a big wave was coming and I had to 'eskimo roll' under it. Clint taught me that one in the living room in Japan. You basically grab the rails and capsize the board on top of you as you go under the wave then come back around on top of the board as the wave passes. It was much easier than it sounds and actually happened to my surprise. So, after about 30 minutes, I was completely spent and decided to come back into the shore. And about 5 minutes later a patrolman came by with a sign.

    I knew it!!!

Here are some pictures of the kids at the beach.

Then we drove up to Kaena Point and here is a picture of a tidal pool up there. DSC_0047

You can see how the waves have eroded the lava rock there. It is such a quiet and beautiful place, way off the beaten path. A nice beach there for snorkeling too. I hear there are sharks, though ;)

  • 29 and counting...

Well, I am starting the last year of my twenties. I can remember turning 20 and thinking that finally people would take me seriously, HA!  I keep hearing that 40 is the new 20, which means I am probably still not going to be taken seriously for another 10 years or so. Oh well, I don't take myself seriously, so I don't expect anyone else too either. It was a good day, as birthdays go. Clint let me pick out a new camera, since the old one broke just as we arrived in Hawaii, and then he surprised me by presenting me with my very own surfboard, which is now residing on the couch until I can figure out where to stash it in this tiny hotel room. Kaia ate peas today, which is a first as far as the solids go, she also ate two handfuls of sand at the beach this afternoon, also a first. I saw a double rainbow yesterday. I could see the entire bow from start to finish and then I noticed that another one was right on top of it. It was pretty neat looking. I hope I never get used to seeing rainbows everyday. I hope I always stop to look in awe. I better keep this short, we are getting up early to go to the beach so I can learn to surf before the crowds get there. I don't think it'll help, and I will probably embarass myself to no end, but I have to try. It should be interesting, since Clint will have to stay on the beach with the kids when I am in the water, I will have to figure it out on the fly. I'm going to youtube like crazy tonight. "learn to surf" "surfing for beginners" "how to surf and look like you know what you are doing without actually knowing what you are doing and not get eaten by a shark" You have to know that I only last in the ocean in about 4 minute increments, because every four minutes I think I see or feel something lurking in the water and my heart jumps up in my throat and I sprint against the backwash to the shore in a panic running from the 'sharks' This is going to be fun. I hope I don't get eaten by a shark and I hope I don't look like an absolute idiot trying to do this. Oh well, I probably will (the idiot, not the shark) Ok, here are some pictures of Kaia I took on my new camera.

I think she looks a lot like Clint in this one.

She definitely has his expressive eyebrows!
